Last week Scitech brought the city to the country when they visited our school with their chemical science program. Known for their hands-on interactive approach, they didn’t disappoint as they presented lively science shows which involved the audience, closely followed by smaller workshops where students performed science experiments exploring chemical changes for themselves.
Kindy to Year 3 students enjoyed the “Mix and Make” demonstrations, combining different everyday ingredients found in the home with some spectacular results. The workshop demystified baking where students understood the chemical properties of their ingredients, as they cooked chocolate cupcakes.
Year 4 to 6 students were invited to “see the world in a whole new light through chemistry” in their “Element of Surprise” show, showcasing scientific processes and affirming how relevant science is to everyday life.
The presenters worked tirelessly to encourage a love for science through their banter, involving students in the fun and showing the seemingly ‘magical’ outcomes of chemical science! From the enthusiastic response of most students during shows and workshops, it was a successful introduction to the wonders of chemical science.
