Transition to High School

Supporting your child when they move to secondary school

Moving from primary to secondary school is a big event in every child’s education journey.

Students in Year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to visit the local secondary school, Margaret River Senior High School, to sample courses on offer at MRSHS.

Our local secondary school offers unique programs that cater for a variety of student needs through an extensive ATAR and VET subject availability. These include sports, performing arts, digital technologies, enrichment and engagement programs and developing international relationships through languages and partnerships with Rotary.

Year 6 transition and enrolments take place from August to October each year with an Orientation Day held in December. Parents are required to complete the required Department for Education forms and return them back to the school on the date stated. It is also a requirement that parents sending their children to a private school return the enrolment pack with the notice to inform the Department for Education that they will be enrolling at a private school.

You play an important role in supporting your child through this transition period. To help you we have included a series of factsheets that will help make the transition a smooth one. These include an outline of what to expect at secondary school, and checklists and practical tips to help your child settle in to the first few weeks of school.
