Our Faction Surfing Carnival was held on Friday 6 April at Inside Grunters in perfect offshore conditions. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions which allowed both the more experienced surfers an opportunity to show their skills and the developing surfers the chance to paddle into waves that were perfect for their ability level.
It was an early start for competitors with a 7.30 safety briefing on the beach before the first heat at 8am. Students surfed in teams of three or four in a tag team format where each surfer had 10 minutes in the water before tagging their team mate and swapping over.
Josh Palmateer’s Surf School provided expert surf coaches and water safety patrols on the day, giving students the chance to improve their surfing. The team format ensured that everybody got behind their faction and supported their mates. Congratulations to Forest Faction for their win on the day!
It was a community event, with lots of family members and friends at the beach to support the students, assist with the set up, provide extra supervision and to help out with judging.
Special thanks go to Lane Alver and David Englet for judging throughout the day.
Thank you to everybody who made the day a huge success.
