In Writers Circle last Thursday, students were treated to a visit from published children’s author, Sally Fawcett. Sally read her book “Through the Gate” and gave students a rare insight into both the writing and illustrating process at different stages of the book.
She showed them her original artworks and talked about how body language mirrored the character’s internal emotions. This was a clear link to one of the ‘craft moves’ students have been practising called “Show Don’t Tell” where they describe what their character does to illustrate his or her mood, rather than explaining his or her feelings.
Students listened closely and asked questions to gain valuable tips which they can use in their own writing in the future. Thank you Sally for sharing your writing journey and for inspiring our writers.
[Please note: Writers Circle will meet just three more times this term, the last of which will culminate in our celebration with the support of another talented published writer and journalist, Danielle Costley.]
