Music

We are proud recipients of an Excellence Award for our Music Program, awarded at the 2010 Warren Blackwood Education District Celebrating Excellence Awards.

All students receive quality musical experiences. Our aim is to deliver a global, inclusive music program where students follow the K to 12 Syllabus which aligns with the implementation of the Australian Curriculum and includes cross-curricula priorities. The music program revolves around individual, partner, whole class and workstations implementing various instruments such as keyboard, tuned percussion, guitar, ukulele and digital technologies.  Engaged students have fun in Music.

Opportunities arise in Year 5 for students for selection into the IMSS (Instrumental Music School Services) Music Program which carries over to Margaret River Senior High School.

We have a fabulous, inclusive, non-select choir named Dreamcatchers.  All students are most welcome to join. The choir attends WaTutti, a combined schools music camp/workshop over two days touring various schools in the South West.  They also attend a music camp only for Margaret River Primary School during the year and they perform at various community and school events.

We have five school rock bands mentored by local musicians, Tony Lane, Mike Goodwin and Graeme Smailes .  They rehearse at lunch breaks and after school, performing biannually at local gigs.

The Bella Melodia Singers is a recent innovation.  They are a choral ensemble, coached and conducted by  WAPPA trained vocalist, Andrea Manners, who rehearse at lunch break once a week.  They perform with the bands and within the local community.

Private tutoring in instrumental tuition for guitar, piano, violin and drums is available at MRPS.

Every year the Choir is open to the whole school from Years 1 to 6 to create the CCCC (Christmas Crackers Choral Choir) which performs in the Carols at the Park in town.

Students are exposed to professional musicians through whole school programs which include Musica Viva in Schools and Music Count Us In.

Students are exposed to and immersed in music digital technologies including midi devices, Jamstix, Launchpad, Soundcraft, DJ machine, iPad apps and digital drums.
