At the end of last term, we said farewell to our chaplain, Roger Westaway, who is heading off to Jurien Bay, where he will continue his Chaplaincy role at Jurien DHS, Cervantes and Leeman.
Roger took on the role of MRPS School Chaplain when it was introduced three and a half years ago, sharing his time each week between MRPS and Geographe Primary. Over the years, Roger has both overseen and introduced a number of initiatives, including: Hungry Shark Breakfast Shack; Mentoring programme; Pancake Day and World Vision.
Roger provided valuable support to a number of students, both in and out of the classroom, and was often to be found kicking a footy or having a conversation with a group of students in the playgrounds. He will be missed by many but we wish Roger and his family all the best for this new phase in their lives. I asked Roger for a few words and he said:
I enjoy helping kids and ‘bringing a smile to their faces’.
